Word of the Day
/ʘɔtimɯː/
school; space for learning and transforming the mind
Concept
Space — physical or symbolic — where knowledge enters, fixes and merges with the identity of the learner, nourishing and expanding the intelligence already present in each individual. It does not just denote an institution, but any context that fulfills this function: a conversation, a forest, a ritual.
Eroded form of everyday use based on the philosophical compound ʘuho̊triğmȳ, by progressive suppression of internal syllables in a context of high frequency of use.
| Root | Original shape | Semantic contribution |
|---|---|---|
| ʘuh | enter, input | knowledge that crosses a threshold |
| o̊ | mix, merge | fusion with the learner's being |
| triğa | person, individual | the unique identity of the learner |
| mȳh | think, mind | the intelligence that resonates and expands |
Stages of erosion:
ʘuho̊triğmȳ → ʘo̊triğmȳ → ʘo̊trimȳ → ʘɔtimȳ
The bilabial click ʘ survived erosion because it is the most prominent onset of the word — acoustically, it anchors the memory of the threshold, of the entry. The final lengthening -mȳ resisted because it is a root of high semantic load in the language.
- Wa ʘɔtimȳ uh.
I'm going to school.
Synonyms:
- = college
